Creative Costuming: Fantasyland!

Kicking off the Creative Costuming part of the project with the first set...

Their design hasn't changed too much since the original sketch.

I made her outfit less clownish by lowering her skirt and adding more princess-y details.

If you can't tell, the main inspiration for this set was -what I consider- the heart of Fantasyland: the Carousel! I narrowed that down to being the most iconic for the area (that wasn't film/character-centric). Plus the tent contained all the colors that the land is usually associated with.

Placing the colors for the guy was tricky. Didn't wanna make his outfit too...yeah.

I have the Frontierland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland duos sketched out, but I can already say that the Fantasyland duo is probably the best out of the four MK sets.

Get the ball rollin'.

I think in order to motivate myself more to work on this project, I should make a blog! It's more encouraging to work on when I know that there are people - aside from my school advisors- who want to see the progression of the whole thing.

So, what is it that I'm doing exactly? Well, this October marks the 40th anniversary of one of my favorite places on earth: The Walt Disney World Resort!
I was quite astonished to hear that there were no plans for a parade to celebrate this occasion. Probably because they're investing all their time and money into the Fantasyland expansion.

So I got to thinkin', "Gee, I always wanted to design a big parade, maybe I could come up with one!"
A bunch of scribbles and brainstorming sessions later, I started coming up with float designs, costumes, and overall theme to the parade. I'm dubbing this whole project, which is for my Senior Project, Project D40. Oh ho ho, I am so creative.

Here, I will be posting rough and completed concepts for costumes and parade floats. Ideally, I would like to have 32 costumes designed total (16 female, 16 male to match) and there will be 6 floats. The latter, I'm less concerned about as I have those designs sitting in my head, waiting to be fleshed out on paper.
